Hi, The day was Sunday, the 18th of july and the DLUGgers were to have a meeting.
But the powers that be, at Redmond, conspired against it all. A disk was compacted,
another (!=disk) was given something 'stupid' to work his 'ass' off (strange
way to work !!), and, the sunny day to be was 'bug'ged into being a rainy one.
The DLUGgers feared water-solubility and decided that they'd rather stay home
and hack kernels. Well some of us had nothing better to do and so we came and
we met and had a good time. Here are the minutes. 2:45 PM -- Some guys've turned
up.
The meeting starts and the first thing everyone does is complain that the venue is tooooo far away. Introductions follow. 3:00 PM -- There is nothing on the agenda, so an impromptu discussion starts. The DCE faculty is sceptical about the practicality of using "free" linux... so the discussion moves on to the virtues of Linux and many observations about Linux as the OS of choice are made. A very cursory demo of text-editors and compilers in Linux is done.
4:00 PM -- Snacks time. Snacks are on the house. Arrangements had been made for 40!! people and me tried to persuade the 7 people to consume all of it.. needless to say, I was unsuccessful.
Later -- A discussion about Linux-in-general starts. There was a kernel_hacker_advanced_level (Ramit Datta) among us who spoke something about his work. Discussion moves from 'process management' to scripting to VNC to 'RedHat vs. Debian' (Debian, once installed is the winner) to minicom to why_doesnt_ILUG-D_get_an_ERNET_connection to a lot of other things... till somebody pointed out that it was getting late.
